fanboy: that thing is awesome. you'll get to play with one day and lust after it i'm sure
Me: naw
Me: dude does too much
Me: I dont want mobile video music player and phone and maps
fanboy: then don't press those buttons?
Me: I would rather have specific devices that do a better job at all them
fanboy: your phone is the same
Me: then one that tries to do it al
Me: :-p
fanboy: it has a group of buttons on the main screen you can cycle through. only problem is it sucks at it :)
fanboy: problem is no one wants that anymore. single purpose devices died with the cell phone
Me: I disagree
fanboy: do you want a computer that can only run mail, or web?
Me: A built in GPS in your car is better then on your phone and safer
Me: The internet at edge speed is just lame
Me: which is why I don’t use the web browsing on my phone allot
Me: only in an emergency
Me: like at a strip club for you best buddies b-day (I was dragged) when I need to transfer money from saving to checking (ooo the good old days)
Me: O:-)
Me: and I like the when I'm riding my motorcycle I'm not going to take a call
Me: but it interrupts it if I'm listening to the mp3 player
Me: so I quit using it
fanboy: yes but a built in GPS in my car is useful because it can integrate with it, and works hands free, not because it's more useful as a single purpose device
Me: Simple rule of computers and devices
Me: Multix is a pain in the ass and why it was dumped
fanboy: you do realize MOST phones are edge right?
Me: Unix is small little thing combined do cool things
fanboy: SJ made a very good point earlier today
fanboy: 3G is battery hungry and the chips for it are physically too big
fanboy: if you want 3g on an iphone it would have been thicker and half the battery life for a technology that most people can't use
Me: And there is no real innovation in the device
Me: just repackaging current functionality in it
Me: sorry dude
fanboy: so? at least it's something practical that people can buy
fanboy: nothing in the iphone is current. the maps is way better
fanboy: the browser is way better
fanboy: the ipod on it is way better than shit in Verizon/etc phones
Me: I using the best tool for the job not being stuck with a hammer ;)
Me: I dont even like mp3 / phones
Me: I think there LAME!!!!
fanboy: do you like your ipod?
Me: Yea its a simple device it just plays music
Me: 1 purpose
fanboy: cause the iPhone's kind of made by the same company who makes iPhones
Me: which is my point
fanboy: er ipods that is
fanboy: i hear that company makes pretty good mp3 players
Me: Yea they got a single purpose device right
Me: b/c of the music deals they singed
Me: Muliix vs Unix
Me: and I like unix
Me: just the way I am
Me: ;)
fanboy: so how is clicking on the music button, thus putting you into "ipod mode" any worse than clicking on one button on an ipod
Me: b/c you have to push a button to switch modes and you can push the wrong button and get into something else
Me: :-p
fanboy: how is the fact that you can now use your Ipod with a touch screen that does stuff in a more natural form factor worse?
fanboy: THERE'S ONLY ONE FUCKING BUTTON MAN!
Me: Still to much
fanboy: it's the home button. tell me you an handle a home button
Me: I want play
Me: 1 button ;)
fanboy: guess what there's a play button
fanboy: on the screen
Me: I like single devices that do one thing awesome
Me: rather then a device that does everything pretty good
Me: just the way I am
fanboy: what if the iPhone did everything *identical* to the iPod when it's in iPod mode
fanboy: what if it only did that, in fact
Me: what part of this aren't you getting man ;)
fanboy: with the touch screen and everything
fanboy: would it then be awesome?
Me: the user is always right ;)
Me: single devices that kick ass rather then a device that trys to do to much
fanboy: no no no no. answer this question
fanboy: you know how the iphone has a music app
Me: an app
fanboy: what if the music app was all the iphone was but it still had the touch screen and everything else
fanboy: what if that app was all it could run
Me: dude answer this question
fanboy: would you then consider it a useful "single purpose device"
Me: is it going to stop playing music when a call comes in ?
Me: yes
Me: and if there is an option how hard is it to get too
Me: how many steps do I have to take ?
fanboy: okay then. i propose your argument is useless, because the iPhone has a great music app, that' BY ITSELF is good. and gee it happens to do phone calls, and maps, and you tube, and web browsing, all accessible from a single home button. why is that so complicated?
fanboy: .. it's two steps
fanboy: press home
fanboy: press music
fanboy: want to browse the web?
fanboy: press home, press safari
fanboy: want to do a phone call? press home, press phone button
fanboy: get the idea? everything is simple. back to home, then one press away
Me: b/c I don’t want or need a web browser, you tube player, music player all in one
Me: I don’t want that
fanboy: then don't use it/
Me: so why would i buy something I wont use
fanboy: you know.. i don't like DVD Player on my mac
fanboy: i think i don't like my entire mac now because of that
Me: Dude I'm picky about phones just the way I am
Me: I like it to be a phone first and everything second I don’t get that impression with the iphone
Me: its steve's second attempt at palm computing in a new shinny package
Me: that more sexy then b4
fanboy: Steve didn't do the Newton
fanboy: some guy did it after he left
fanboy: and steve scraped it when he got back because it was a useless project
fanboy: why? because it was big, ugly, tethered, and had no traction in the market (PDAs in general were a big niche, like tablets are now)
Me: Part of it is I want to disconnect from the data stream at times
Me: and the I phone is totally against that
fanboy: the iPhone is everything that's great about the iPod with everything that's great about apple software design marriage with the device that everyone hates because no one who knows how to do software properly will make a cell phone
Me: so they say
fanboy: so they say?? ALL cell OSes suck
Me: I think the RIMM and Danger did a good job b4
fanboy: i've yet to see anything as aesthetically awesome or simple as the iPhone
Me: I disagree
fanboy: if you think the iphone isn't hands down prettier and easier to use than everything else out there i think you're irrational. you can tell me you prefer whatever you're using or something you used before but the iPhone is damn sexy and easy
Me: thats it is sexy
fanboy: you can tell me you like XYZ features (or lack of features) but the iphone is like the jessica alba of phones
Me: I dont care about sexy I care about doing everything awesome not just doing a good job
Me: it does have the screen to be a web browser but they try to pawn it off as one
Me: the reason I didn't buy a video ipod is b/c the screen size suck under 4 x 4
Me: if I want to look at a map 4x6 in screen isn't enough to get a frame of reference without manipulating a pretty and ground breaking unnecessary ui
Me: I'm not saying that its not innovative
Me: I'm not saying its not sexy
Me: I'm saying it doesn't do what I want it to do
fanboy: but people will buy it in droves just because of how sexy and easy it is
Me: I like simple devices that do a single task awesome not a multi device
Me: and most people are tools ;)
fanboy: and apple will be adding updates to the software for free
fanboy: if you don't like multi devices, i don't know why you have a sidekick 3
fanboy: if you don't like multi devices get a B&W Motorola PEBL
Me: I have a side kick three b/c its a phone does sms and has a yahoo IM client on it
Me: thats it
Me: I don’t use anything else
Me: 99.9 % of the time
fanboy: so you like a phone that can do YIM.. that's more than just phone calls
fanboy: you ever send a text message to YAHOO or GOOGL trying to get an address to a place?
Me: it does text , and internet com and phone
Me: its all in the commutation space
Me: that’s what it is a commutation device
Me: :-p
Me: that’s what I use it for
Me: all I use it for
Me: if I want to watch a movie I want a 32 inch TV
Me: if I want to use the internet I'll use my computer and T3/ down and 1 up connection
Me: and a big ass 22 inch screen
Me: just b/c a new device fits in your pocket looks sexy and does some basic stuff that the full grown devices do 100% better doesn't mean I want it
fanboy: the reason i never use the browser on my phone is it would be completely useless
fanboy: it wouldn't render the webpage even seemingly correct
fanboy: if i could use a phone that let me view webpages like a desktop, and actually navigate around i'd do it in a heartbeat
fanboy: seems like you can now :P
Me: Look the only thing the Iphone does that the sidekick doesn't is video and I didn't want that in the first place :-p
Me: and I use my device 99.9 percent of the time as commutations only
Me: not entertainment
Me: I would rather be hanging out with my friends and women when I'm out and about and be getting laid then being entertained by a shinny new toy
fanboy: no one's saying you have to stay glued to it 24x7
Me: I against technology that entertains and separate people from community and the iphone is another distraction in modern living
