So I am in the mist of my preparations for Burning man, something I have been putting on and off for 7 years. It being Sal’s request for a substitute for a Bachelor party, there can be no more excuses. I have to go after last nights dream however, I wonder how close my dream is to reality ( other then the hotel bit ) To Much  man to much to much ( K those who know me know where that’s from ).

We arrived at burning man. I was settling in I set up my cot and my stuff in a Car Tent. Off in the back corner and I knew we where two rows in on the edge of the playa, it was literally a tent city, hundreds and hundreds of very dense tents for miles it seems. People on and off bikes going past in this light but never ending stream of people 

I was walking toward this building, watching the scored cracked gray earth below my feet trying to keep my head down from the dust. On the edge of a playa was this hotel a red brick building.

In side It was mostly dark but defiantly a 10 foot hard ceiling over head as I follow the sound of the music. There where 3 huge dance rooms / conference halls. The smell of the dry dusty air but it was cooler like AC. ( I grew up in central Utah so I’m a desert rat )  There was a room where a massive Party was going on lots of people dancing and carrying on too dance music, the low glow from thousands of glow sticks fill the room with a pale light, I stop to look and watch but I was weary.

 Walking between the halls was doors and doors of hotel rooms, and we came into this open space where there was this large carpeted pit me and my friend sat down and joined this cuddle party. I lay down and this really beautiful burnet rolls on top me of in a suggestively plea’s me meet her at this poly party.  Of course I agree but it’s not till that evening and I will meet her there. (leaving stuff out b/c this is PG rated Journal Post) After a little me and Rayn it we it up and go out the doors and then again look out across Black Rocky City its mid afternoon.

 We head into this tent the dust thick all around us as a small wind gust blows across the city, on the way I come up with crazy Idea of having an free arcade at burning man and we sit down to talk to the Burning Man Organizers to talk about it.  We eventfully shoot it down the arcade b/c of the dust and how it would eat the electronics and electricity needed to run such an event. 

 Night falls and we are wondering and heading towards the party, I can hear nothing but the constant dance beat and neon lights everywhere. We arrive at this massive tent probably the size of a football field. go through the tent door and people are dancing in the center with tones of pillows and carpets around everywhere something  right out of Prince of Arabia. People in the corners and on pillows thru out t the room are making out. There are belly dancers in the center of the room. I see the female friend across the room she turns and Looks and me and this big grin comes on her face.    

I wake up!!!

Note I’ve never been to burning man before but this just makes me more excited to go.
I rarely have a dream like that its once in a blue moon.

fanboy: that thing is awesome. you'll get to play with one day and lust after it i'm sure

Me: naw

Me: dude does too much

Me: I dont want mobile video music player and phone and maps

fanboy: then don't press those buttons?

Me: I would rather have specific devices that do a better job at all them

fanboy: your phone is the same

Me: then one that tries to do it al

fanboy: it has a group of buttons on the main screen you can cycle through. only problem is it sucks at it :)

fanboy: problem is no one wants that anymore. single purpose devices died with the cell phone

Me: I disagree

fanboy: do you want a computer that can only run mail, or web?

Me: A built in GPS in your car is better then on your phone and safer

Me: The internet at edge speed is just lame

Me: which is why I don’t use the web browsing on my phone allot

Me: only in an emergency

Me: like at a strip club for you best buddies b-day (I was dragged) when I need to transfer money from saving to checking (ooo the good old days)

Me: O:-)

Me: and I like the when I'm riding my motorcycle I'm not going to take a call

Me: but it interrupts it if I'm listening to the mp3 player

Me: so I quit using it

fanboy: yes but a built in GPS in my car is useful because it can integrate with it, and works hands free, not because it's more useful as a single purpose device

Me: Simple rule of computers and devices

Me: Multix is a pain in the ass and why it was dumped

fanboy: you do realize MOST phones are edge right?

Me: Unix is small little thing combined do cool things

fanboy: SJ made a very good point earlier today

fanboy: 3G is battery hungry and the chips for it are physically too big

fanboy: if you want 3g on an iphone it would have been thicker and half the battery life for a technology that most people can't use

Me: And there is no real innovation in the device

Me: just repackaging current functionality in it

Me: sorry dude

fanboy: so? at least it's something practical that people can buy

fanboy: nothing in the iphone is current. the maps is way better

fanboy: the browser is way better

fanboy: the ipod on it is way better than shit in Verizon/etc phones

Me: I using the best tool for the job not being stuck with a hammer ;)

Me: I dont even like mp3 / phones

fanboy: do you like your ipod?

Me: Yea its a simple device it just plays music

Me: 1 purpose

fanboy: cause the iPhone's kind of made by the same company who makes iPhones

Me: which is my point

fanboy: i hear that company makes pretty good mp3 players

Me: Yea they got a single purpose device right

Me: b/c of the music deals they singed

fanboy: so how is clicking on the music button, thus putting you into "ipod mode" any worse than clicking on one button on an ipod

Me: b/c you have to push a button to switch modes and you can push the wrong button and get into something else

fanboy: how is the fact that you can now use your Ipod with a touch screen that does stuff in a more natural form factor worse?

fanboy: what if the music app was all the iphone was but it still had the touch screen and everything else

Me: and if there is an option how hard is it to get too

fanboy: okay then. i propose your argument is useless, because the iPhone has a great music app, that' BY ITSELF is good. and gee it happens to do phone calls, and maps, and you tube, and web browsing, all accessible from a single home button. why is that so complicated?

Me: Part of it is I want to disconnect from the data stream at times

fanboy: the iPhone is everything that's great about the iPod with everything that's great about apple software design marriage with the device that everyone hates because no one who knows how to do software properly will make a cell phone

fanboy: if you think the iphone isn't hands down prettier and easier to use than everything else out there i think you're irrational. you can tell me you prefer whatever you're using or something you used before but the iPhone is damn sexy and easy

Me: thats it is sexy

fanboy: you can tell me you like XYZ features (or lack of features) but the iphone is like the jessica alba of phones

Me: I dont care about sexy I care about doing everything awesome not just doing a good job

Me: it does have the screen to be a web browser but they try to pawn it off as one

Me: the reason I didn't buy a video ipod is b/c the screen size suck under 4 x 4

Me: if I want to look at a map 4x6 in screen isn't enough to get a frame of reference without manipulating a pretty and ground breaking unnecessary ui

Me: I'm not saying that its not innovative

Me: I'm saying it doesn't do what I want it to do

fanboy: but people will buy it in droves just because of how sexy and easy it is

Me: if I want to use the internet I'll use my computer and T3/ down and 1 up connection

Me: and a big ass 22 inch screen

Me: just b/c a new device fits in your pocket looks sexy and does some basic stuff that the full grown devices do 100% better doesn't mean I want it

fanboy: the reason i never use the browser on my phone is it would be completely useless

fanboy: it wouldn't render the webpage even seemingly correct

fanboy: if i could use a phone that let me view webpages like a desktop, and actually navigate around i'd do it in a heartbeat

Me: Look the only thing the Iphone does that the sidekick doesn't is video and I didn't want that in the first place :-p

Me: and I use my device 99.9 percent of the time as commutations only

Me: not entertainment

Me: I would rather be hanging out with my friends and women when I'm out and about and be getting laid then being entertained by a shinny new toy

fanboy: no one's saying you have to stay glued to it 24x7

Me: I against technology that entertains and separate people from community and the iphone is another distraction in modern living

Got up at 6 am shaved showered and geared up.  I was out the house by 7:00am.  For a nice Sunday morning ride to redwood city to Doc Wongs Riding clinics.

Doc Wong has been teaching riding skills and sport bike racing for over 15 years. Anybody that goes to one of his clinics feels the difference in their riding after the first couple of session. This month it was about Body English / Body positions and how to better staying on the bike under rough and tight leaning conditions.

There was about 50 of us and we broke into groups of about 10-12 depending on skill level.  So we headed down CA 84 and down some creek road I can't remember. I was crazy bumpy the goal was to teach you how to hold on to the bike with your body not your arms.  Doc said if your butt hurts half way down your not holding on right. After the bumpy ride for prob about 15 miles, it smoothed out into very windy and hair pin turns, Where we worked on leaning technique and tight turns at speed.

I swear some of the hair pin turns my knee was only 2 inches from the ground. But it was so much Fun!!!!!.  We stopped probably 6 times in 6 hours and stopped and talked about what we where learning. The group lead and the sweep (person making sure everyone got to the next point) coached us on our riding and helped answer any questions we had.

We ended up headed south on PCH 1 and I can say seriously one of the most memorable experiences is coming over the hill on PCH 1.   Seeing the ocean cliffs and ocean on a bike with 10 other riders behind you, ocean breeze, clear blue skies, at a little bit faster then highway speeds ;). It was like heaven.

We stopped and totally swamped this grill and dinner we at lunch and relaxed for a hour.  So many pretty bikes. Eat Lunch talked shop and watched the waves come in. After an hour we all jumped back on our bikes and headed towards Jamison Creek.

Which is about 20% incline and tight turns (they tell us to put our bikes in neutral and just work on our leaning and breaking).

Then we all meet at a cross road between hw9 and 37 and pulled into this parking lot. We all as a group talked about the ride and what we learned and we where sent on our way. Total Ride was about 182 miles and with lunch 5 1/2 hours. I am so going next month, who's with me?
